Fire Danger in Prescott Nat’l Forest up to Very High

The rain that fell on the Prescott area Tuesday and Wednesday did little to alleviate the risk of a wildfire. The current fire danger in the Prescott National Forest is listed as very high. Last week, the fire danger was high.

Everyone is urged to take precautions to prevent a wildfire from breaking out. If you are camping, be sure your campfire is completely drenched and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. Also, when driving, do not throw cigarette butts out your car window, and make sure chains are not dragging from your vehicles, as that can create sparks. Earlier this week, the Verde Valley Fire District dealt with several roadside brushfires.

This is also a good time to clear brush and yard waste from your property to create defensible space around your home.
