The City of Prescott has begun its annual surface water recharge operations at Watson Lake. City officials say water levels at the lake will gradually drop over the next several weeks, with a target of about seven feet below the spillway.
The water will flow down Granite Creek and be captured at airport recharge basins, where it will return to the aquifer. City officials say this process helps offset groundwater use and supports long-term water supply.
The recharge operation is scheduled to continue through November 1st or until target levels are met. Residents are urged to avoid the dam area due to strong currents.
No other lakes will be impacted by this process.
