Now that it is spring, cottonwood trees in the Prescott area have begun dropping their seeds, which resemble a white, cotton-like substance. It is crucial residents understand these seeds are highly flammable.
Prescott Mayor Cathey Rusing says:
Rusing adds two fires have been started in the last week in both Granite Dells and downtown as a result of the cottonwood accumulation. She says to avoid open flames, tossing cigarette butts, and lighting the “fluff” to prevent starting a fire.
